Craft beer has taken the beverage market by storm, offering a vast variety of flavors and styles to excite consumers and leave the mass-produced light beers in the dust. However, there’s more to craft beer than what’s inside the bottle. The craft beer labels that adorn these cans and bottles serve as artistic masterpieces, captivating consumers with their creativity and conveying the unique story behind each brew. In this blog, we delve into the fascinating world of craft beer labeling and discover how it enhances the overall beer-drinking experience.
Visual Identity
Craft beer labels are not afterthoughts but deliberate expressions of a brewer’s artistic vision. They play a crucial role in establishing a brand’s identity and differentiating one beer from another. From vibrant colors to intricate designs, these labels catch the eye and ignite curiosity. They create an instant connection with consumers, inviting them to explore the beer’s story and flavors. Whether it’s a minimalist design or an elaborate illustration, craft beer labels have the power to evoke emotions and create memorable impressions. Especially in a state like Colorado where competition in the craft beer market is fierce, standing out and drawing the consumers’ eye is essential.
Telling a Story
Beyond aesthetics, craft beer labels often weave a narrative. They provide a glimpse into the brewing process, highlight unique ingredients, or showcase the brewery’s history and values. By sharing stories through their labels, breweries engage beer enthusiasts on a deeper level, fostering a sense of connection and loyalty. These labels may transport us to distant lands, evoke nostalgia, or simply bring a smile to our faces. Each label holds the potential to spark conversations and inspire an appreciation for the craftsmanship and passion behind the beer.
Breaking Traditions
One of the remarkable aspects of craft beer labeling is the freedom it allows for experimentation and creativity. Unlike mass-produced beers with standardized labels, craft breweries often challenge conventions and embrace innovative designs. From unconventional shapes and materials to witty puns and clever wordplay, these labels push boundaries and reflect the industry’s rebellious spirit. Craft beer labeling is a testament to the fusion of art and beer, offering an experience that goes beyond taste and engages all our senses. It’s no wonder that this industry continues to grow and flourish.
The Consumer’s Journey
Craft beer labels are not only visually enticing but also serve as a roadmap for consumers. A professionally printed label represents the quality of the beer inside. High-quality labels signal to a consumer that the beer is high quality as well. Labels also provide vital information such as beer style, ABV (alcohol by volume), ingredients, and serving suggestions. The labels act as guides, helping beer enthusiasts navigate the vast world of craft beer and make informed choices based on their preferences.
Labeling Options
The creativity that is inherent to craft beer often means small and limited batches. Small batches naturally lend themselves to labels as they can be produced in small quantities with short turn times. At Columbine Label, turn times can be as fast as 3 days from art approval. Columbine Label also offers special pricing for our craft beer friends, find out more Here.
But are there other options? What about preprinted cans and shrink sleeves? Preprinted cans are known to have a large volume requirement. This has led some craft brewers to purchase a “generic” preprinted can and label the middle to give the appearance of fully preprinted cans. Another option is shrink sleeves. Shrink sleeves have slightly larger minimums and slightly longer turn times, but can be great options for the right brew. Another issue with shrink sleeves is application. Many label manufacturers will offer shrink sleeves, but craft brewers are without anyone to apply them. Columbine Label both offer craft beer shrink sleeve printing and application!
